Hanoi welcomed a surge of tourists in July 2025, exceeding expectations with a significant increase in both domestic and international arrivals, boosting the city’s economy considerably. The impressive figures signal a robust recovery in the tourism sector, exceeding even the strong performance of the previous year. This upswing is attributed to a combination of targeted marketing initiatives and the inherent appeal of Hanoi’s rich cultural heritage and vibrant atmosphere.
Record-Breaking Tourist Numbers

According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, the city received approximately 2.8 million tourist arrivals in July 2025, reflecting a 10.3% year-on-year increase compared to July 2024. This impressive growth is driven by a substantial rise in international tourism, with over 553,000 international visitors, a remarkable 25.2% increase. Of these international visitors, around 390,000 stayed overnight in Hanoi’s hotels and accommodations. Domestic tourism also contributed significantly, with an estimated 2.25 million domestic visitors, representing a 7.1% year-on-year growth.
Significant Revenue Generation

The influx of tourists translated into substantial revenue for the city. Total tourism revenue in July 2025 is estimated at 10.68 trillion Vietnamese Dong (VND), a 13.9% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This substantial increase underlines the significant economic contribution of the tourism sector to Hanoi’s overall prosperity.
Seven-Month Cumulative Growth

The positive trend extends beyond July. The cumulative number of tourist arrivals in the first seven months of 2025 reached an estimated 18.36 million, representing an 11.6% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This sustained growth highlights the enduring appeal of Hanoi as a tourist destination. International tourist arrivals for the seven-month period totaled approximately 4.21 million, a significant 22.3% increase year-on-year, with 2.97 million of these visitors staying overnight. Domestic tourism also showed robust growth, with 14.15 million domestic visitors, an 8.7% increase compared to the first seven months of 2024. Total tourism revenue for the first seven months of 2025 reached an estimated 73 trillion VND, a 14.5% increase year-on-year.
Hotel Occupancy and Tourism Infrastructure
Hanoi currently boasts a robust tourism infrastructure, with 3,761 accommodation establishments offering a total of 71,256 rooms. This includes 85 hotels and apartment complexes officially rated from one to five stars. However, the average hotel occupancy rate in July 2025 stood at 56.94%, a slight decrease of 1.6 percentage points compared to the same period in 2024. This suggests that while visitor numbers are high, there may be room for further improvements in accommodation capacity or marketing strategies to maximize occupancy rates.
Standardized Tourism Services
To enhance the overall tourist experience, Hanoi has invested in standardizing its tourism services. Currently, 58 businesses have received official recognition for meeting tourism service standards. This includes 25 food and beverage establishments, 22 shopping venues, and 9 entertainment facilities. The consistent quality and range of these services contribute significantly to Hanoi’s growing reputation as a desirable tourist destination, attracting both domestic and international visitors.
Upcoming Events and Initiatives
Looking ahead, the Hanoi Department of Tourism has a busy schedule of events and initiatives planned for August 2025, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day. These include the development of new tourism destinations within Hanoi, the promotion of Hanoi’s culture and tourism at the Osaka Expo and through promotional activities in Nagoya, Japan, the Hanoi Drinks Festival 2025, and participation in the ITB India fair and Vietnam tourism promotion events in India.
Strategic Tourism Product Development
Beyond specific events, Hanoi is actively collaborating with local authorities to develop a range of new tourism products under the theme “Hanoi Tourism – A Convergence of Essence 2025.” This initiative focuses on creating diverse experiences, encompassing agricultural and rural tourism, night tourism, golf tourism, and community-based tourism. Community-based tourism will prioritize authentic experiences showcasing the rich cultural traditions of ethnic minority groups. This multifaceted approach aims to cater to a wider range of tourist interests and preferences, further solidifying Hanoi’s position as a leading tourist destination.
In summary, Hanoi’s tourism sector experienced remarkable growth in July 2025, with substantial increases in both domestic and international arrivals and significant revenue generation, highlighting the city’s robust recovery and enduring appeal as a vibrant tourist destination.
