“Red Hue of Ba Đình”: Hanoi Celebrates Independence with Vibrant Cultural Festival

A vibrant cultural festival, “Red Hue of Ba Đình,” launched on August 30th, 2025, in Hanoi’s Trúc Bạch pedestrian street, captivating residents and tourists alike with its rich blend of art, culture, and tourism promotion. Organized by the Hanoi Department of Tourism and the Ba Đình Ward People’s Committee, the event aimed to honor the area’s historical and cultural significance, foster patriotism, and showcase Hanoi’s creative and distinctive identity.

A Spectacle of Patriotism and Culture

The festival’s opening ceremony featured a remarkable display: 28,000 national flags unfurled across an 800-meter stretch of Ba Đình ward, creating an unprecedented visual spectacle in the capital city. This stunning display served as a powerful tribute to the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution’s success and the National Day on September 2nd. This visual masterpiece set the stage for four days (August 30th to September 2nd, 2025) of immersive cultural experiences.

A Multifaceted Celebration of Hanoi’s Heritage

The “Red Hue of Ba Đình” festival offered a diverse range of activities and experiences. Visitors explored a captivating exhibition commemorating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day. Beautifully designed landscapes and installations enhanced the streetscape, while dedicated areas showcased local tourism products and provided photo opportunities with thematic backdrops.

A highlight of the festival was the “Heritage Path,” guiding participants on a journey through significant historical sites, including Quán Thánh Temple, Thủy Trung Tiên Temple, and An Trí Communal House. Along the way, visitors enjoyed exhibits displayed on Trúc Bạch street and four double-decker trams, each themed around distinct aspects of Vietnamese culture: “Pho Tram” (Noodle Train), “Bao Cap Tram” (Ration Train), “Thoc Lua Gao Tram” (Rice Train), and “Tra-Cafe Tram” (Tea-Coffee Train).

Food, Art, and Community Engagement

The festival also featured a Hanoi culinary extravaganza, encompassing a nostalgic exploration of traditional cuisine, the Ngũ Xã – Ba Đình culinary area, and a vibrant array of Vietnamese street food stalls. This gastronomic journey was complemented by a series of artistic performances: captivating Ca Tru singing at An Trí Communal House and engaging street art displays, adding a vibrant energy to the Ba Đình cultural scene during the national holiday.

Community engagement was a key feature, with initiatives like the “Independence Station” proving particularly popular. This interactive space offered refreshing drinks, a national flag exchange program, and a “Leave Your Emotions” board where locals and tourists could express their feelings about independence, freedom, and love for their country. Furthermore, the festival incorporated experiences promoting green and digital tourism.

Preserving History, Embracing the Future

Phạm Thị Diễm, Chairwoman of the Ba Đình Ward People’s Committee, expressed her hope that the “Red Hue of Ba Đình” festival would serve as a bridge, connecting cherished national memories with the present-day life of the capital. The event, she stated, provided an opportunity for citizens to reflect on the nation’s glorious past, fostering renewed belief and aspirations for a future of national growth and advancement.

Looking ahead, Chairwoman Diễm emphasized the ward’s commitment to preserving and creatively enhancing its heritage. This involves not only safeguarding ancient relics but also infusing them with contemporary energy through artistic activities, festivals, and interactive experiences to make the nation’s heritage more vibrant and accessible to all.

A Parade of Patriotism

Prior to the festival’s opening, approximately 500 residents, clad in red and yellow national flag shirts, participated in a vibrant and solemn parade through the streets, amplifying the nationwide joy leading up to the 80th anniversary celebrations of the August Revolution and National Day.

A Lasting Legacy of Cultural Tourism

With its meticulous planning and innovative approach, the “Red Hue of Ba Đình” festival is poised to become a flagship tourism product for Hanoi during major national holidays. It is expected to contribute significantly to promoting Hanoi’s image as a friendly, culturally rich, and sustainably developing city, leaving a lasting legacy for years to come. The carefully curated blend of historical commemoration, cultural immersion, and community engagement successfully positioned the festival as a compelling celebration of Hanoi’s rich heritage and vibrant present.
